Sometimes you need more entertainment than just the sights and sounds of nature on your trip to Hocking. Fortunately we hillfolk are a lively bunch, and you’ll find a local brewery, winery, a variety of restaurants offering live music, and the occasional game night.
PLENTY OF ENTERTAINMENT IN HOCKING HILLS
Entertainment is synonymous with vacation but plenty of locals to Hocking Hills may or may not have heard about all the ways they can check out the local scene. Sometimes locals take for granted all there is to offer but it is fun to do a staycation and check out some venues that might otherwise get overlooked. New places are opening up, theatre is hotter than ever and live music brings floods of visitors to the area to experience the beautiful scenery of the region. Check out all the different ways locals and tourists can explore entertainment options for people of all ages.
Live Music
Brewery 33 is run by award winning brewmaster Dave and his team. They provide a brewery experience unlike any other in Hocking Hills. Handcrafted beers are their speciality which rotate often to keep things interesting. They also feature event space for hosting live music and functions for large groups.
Hunter Street Saloon in Logan features multiple televisions, bar area, outside patio, live music and dancing. Come for the delicious food but stay for the different types of music playing any given night throughout the year.
Duck Creek Camping and Outdoor Events Area is unique to Hocking Hills, WIth such a beautiful location next to Lake Logan State Park, Duck Creek offers nearly 100 acres of space to host live events throughout the year. The summer is especially jam packed with campers and visitors from near and far who come to spend time among the trees and wildlife for a secluded, yet exciting feel. This perfect outdoor setting is also home to the Duck Creek Log Jam each summer featuring many musicians and musical talents.
Hocking Hills Winery
This family friendly gathering place hosts events and parties for guests while offering great tasting wine produced on site. The quality wine is sure to bring people back with family and friends to enjoy the scenery and wind down after a long day on the trails.
Stuart’s Opera House
This iconic space in the Nelsonville Historic Art District re-opened in 1997 and boasts over 75 events every year. This includes live music, theater, dance, film, education programming and more. Internationally acclaimed performances are hosted here along with community events. It is the premier location for Southeastern Ohio’s live event entertainment experience. The Opera House is also home to the Nelsonville Music Festival which is a fundraiser for their programs. Billboard has billed it one of the ‘best kept secrets’ in U.S. music festivals.
Movies
Skyview Drive-in is one of 396 drive-in theatres left in the United States. Built in 1948, this iconic symbol of mid-America has been offering entertainment to families for decades. Food is offered at the concession stands with quality entertainment sure to engage the whole family in a unique way.
Movies 10 Fun Barn and Arcade features an indoor 10 screen movie theatre with video and arcade area for kids of all ages. Great entertainment for rainy days or just to get away with the family and enjoy time together.
Logan Community Theatre is a community based non-profit providing theatre and entertainment to people of all ages. This includes cultural programming, community theatre programs, classes, and more.
Hop N is an indoor facility with bounce houses, video games, and virtual reality. Open play and private party rentals are available. Guests are welcome to come bounce, play, and entertain themselves on a day off the hiking trails and adventure activities.
More Things To Do Around Hocking Hills
Axe Throwing
Hungry Buffalo offers Bury the Axe. Come throw an axe, have a bite at Hungry Buffalo or buy some souvenirs from the gift shop.
Festivals are a large part of coming to Hocking Hills. They draw crowds from all over the world to experience new and interesting music and events. Check out some of the great events happening year round.
Wild Turkey Festival takes place in late Spring which sees nightly entertainment on a sound stage, carnival rides, a car show, and contests. The parade takes place on Saturday with a crowning of the Wild Turkey Festival Queen being the culmination of the event. A long-standing local tradition not to miss for visitors and staycationers.
Moonshine Festival takes place late May, before the kickoff to Summer. Come check out vendors, moonshine burgers, moonshine pie, moonshine doggies (you get the point is moonshine). Carnival rides are featured along with musical guests and lots of entertainment for the family (but maybe not the moonshine).
Feast of the Flowering Moon started in 1984, a festival held on Memorial Weekend in a downtown setting. This three-day event features Native Americans with dancing, music, and exhibits. This exhibit has entertainment on the main stage and is free for everyone.
Washboard Music Festival is downtown Logan, Ohio early June. The summer kicks off with a celebration of the role the washboard has played in the region historically and today. There is focus on jazz, jug band, and zydeco influences with entertainment for the whole family and tours of the Columbus Washboard Company.
Parade of the Hills happens in Nelsonville, Ohio near Logan. This event, held annually in August, is a premier event for families. Entertainment, art, home cooking, a Pie Contest, 5k run and more occur here. The Ohio State Fiddling Contest also takes place.
